Come and discover this area with a wine tasting in the Collio region, where some of the best wines in the world are produced, in a landscape rich in lush, green hills and small historic hamlets – organised with the Felluga, Jermann, Villa Russia, Canus, Toros, Moschion, Castle of Spessa and Collavini wine farms. We also recommend a visit to Cividale del Friuli, an ancient town that was capital of the Lombards.
Vodopivec, in the heart of the Carso. The wine estate conveys the spirit of its land with a single native grape variety, Vitovska, produced with great passion, dedication and pride by employing the terracotta clay pot technique, used for thousands of years.
Kante is a farm where the art of experimentation and innovation come across with the production of fresh, elegant products that see their purity and authenticity as stemming directly from nature.
The Keber farm, on the Zegla hill that gently descends to the border with Slovenia, is famous for its soil that particularly suits Tocai grapes: this is where the award-winning “Tocai Friulano” wine by Renato Keber is produced.
Sitting on a hill, the city of San Daniele is world-renowned for its high-quality ham; together with the Sauris smoked ham, it is one of the many Italian culinary products of excellence.

APERITIF IN THE CAVE

The Giant Cave was added in 1995 in the Guinness World Records as the largest single-hall tourist cave in the world, almost 100 meters high.
The Cave of the Slivia Towers is one of many hidden treasures in the Trieste Carso. Two hundred steps will take you to the centre of the earth, the reward being a delicious tasting of local products of excellence. The young owner Corrado will proudly
accompany guests through the secret door in the wood that hides the entrance to the cave: once inside, you will meander through thousand-year-old stone towers and you will be guided towards the deepest point for a superb tasting of local delicacies.

BETWEEN ROCKS, SEA, HONEY AND SCOTCH BROOMS

Discovering the Timavo river and visiting Farma Jakne, with a tasting of home-made honey and gin. The river Timavo crosses three nations: starting in Croatia, it then flows through Slovenia and Italy.
The Italian section is considered the most interesting from a hydrographical point of view as it disappears for 39 km, reappearing in the municipality of San Giovanni of Duino and ending in the Gulf
of Trieste.
The Marasca honey, awarded the Slow Food label, is produced with the nectar of mahaleb cherry and stems from the Middle East: the Carso microclimate suits this tree well and its limited propagation means the restricted production is a rare delicacy. Together with local producers, you will find out about the sweet world of niche beekeeping.
Discovering Jamar – a cheese produced in a karst cave – a symbol of creativity and dedication of the Zidarich farm. The complexity of this cheese is the product of its aging, mostly taking place in a 70-metre-deep cave, not far from the farm. The outcome is a medium-hard, sometimes blue-veined cheese, with intense, enduring scents.

ALONG DELIGHTFUL PATHS

Going along the delightful coast road between the white Carso rock, turquoise sea and the blue sky, you will reach Sistiana, the starting point of the Rilke Path. Featuring an exceptional naturalistic value,
the Rilke Path stretches along the Duino Crags Nature Reserve. It boasts white limestone embankments overlooking the sea, with numerous climbing routes that offer unparalleled views onto the Gulf of Trieste. Going along the path, the gaze will point to the Castle of Duino, resting on a hill overlooking the sea.
The Val Rosandra nature reserve, a special place where the mountains meet the sea, hosts the unique Giordano Cottur cycle path. The route follows the old Trieste to Hrpelje (Erpelle) track, active between 1887 and 1959, linking Trieste with the Transalpine line, itself connecting Istria with Gorizia.
At the foot of the Castle of Miramare, a jewel of biodiversity awaits at the Miramare Marine Protected Area, the only marine reserve in the region, where the WWF staff accompanies visitors across the sea to observe numerous animal and plant species.
